STOP TRA
Sneinton Tenants Outreach Programme
Sneinton Tenants Outreach Programme is a tenants and residents association based in Sneinton, Nottingham. They are known locally as ‘STOP TRA’. The group was set up in 2007 by a group of local residents with the aim of improving the Sneinton Elements area of Nottingham.
At this point in time there was a lot of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area and the group set out to tackle these problems. They've worked with with the Local Police Beat Teams, Renewal Trust, Nottingham City Council’s Neighbourhood Management Team, Nottingham City Homes, the Local Schools and the Local Councillors and there has been a big improvement to the area since the group was founded.
The group has been actively involved in organised fun days and events on King Edward’s Park aimed at local people and families and have run events on the Park as part of Sneinton Festival week for two consecutive years. They have worked with creative organisations in the area, including BACKLIT and Dance4.
The group have worked with Nottingham City Council’s Parks Department to improve King Edwards park and the pavillion building on the park, with help from the local community and Community Payback Team. The pavillion is now open to the public as a community facility and we will be opening it up as a community cafe in Spring 2012. They have set up a community garden in the grounds of the old NECTA building, which welcomes anyone from the local community.
